Born in Mobile, Alabama, Hara began taking classical guitar lessons from Diane Bault at age 8. She was a classical guitar major at the University of South Alabama.
In 1991 she listened to the CD “Little Earthquakes” by Tori Amos, which led Hara to pursue her own compositions.
